Inspiring Future Generations
City of Champions celebrates the individual and collective talents and contributions made by the people of Greater Manchester and harnesses their experience and learnings to help to inspire our future generations.
Our next event is postponed
We are devastated to share the heartbreaking news that Ricky Hatton has passed away. Like so many around the world, we are struggling to come to terms with the loss of such an inspiring, warm, and much-loved figure.
As a proud City of Champions alumni, Ricky reflected the very values of our organisation; resilience, excellence, and community spirit, and we were honoured to have celebrated his journey with him.
As a mark of respect, the event on 14 October will be postponed. At this difficult time, our thoughts are with Ricky’s family, friends, and all who knew and admired him.
Our Story
At City of Champions, we are the heartbeat of Manchester’s spirit. Our mission transcends mere celebration; we are on a quest to immortalise the essence of Manchester by inspiring future generations to shape its legacy. What sets us apart is our deep understanding of Manchester’s soul, recognising and honouring both the storied alumni and the unsung heroes who tirelessly contribute to our city.
We celebrate the individual and collective talents and contributions made by the people of Greater Manchester and harness their experience and learnings to help inspire our future generations.
Named in honour of the individuals who shape and enrich our city, City of Champions has grown into a programme of activity that brings together the good and the great who’ve contributed to the city of Manchester.
Organised by four-time Olympian, Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Diane Edwards MBE, the programme of activity includes an annual celebration event, quarterly networking sessions and access to an exclusive Champions Club. With a unique focus on our alumni, this programme brings together innovative employers, public sector leaders and community advocates to celebrate what it means to be truly inspirational, passing on vital messages of ambition and resilience to audiences.
City of Champions is proud to have the support of Greater Manchester leaders including the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, who has been involved in City of Champions since his election. Both the Mayor and Diane are on a mission to make Manchester the best city to live and work.
